Road Warriors

It was time to set off on a new adventure from Badami to Hampi. I was thankful that this excursion was only going to be around three hours. Biri told us that the road to Hampi was better, it is hard to believe it could be any worse.

On our way to Hampi we  passed through a small village that had small but beautiful temples but we didn't stop, I just snapped some shots from the car. One of the ornate structures was being used as a bus stop. It seems a shame but it is so hot in the sun that you want to take shelter in a shady spot when you can.

The road was much better this time. We drove on a four lane highway  most of the way. There is so much to see that is so foreign to us that it makes the time pass by quickly.

Temple bus stop

Women at work on the side of the road.

This scene is one of the reasons it takes so long to get anywhere in India. You can be driving along at 100 kilometres an hour and then you come into a small village and you can hardly move 5 kilometres because the women are doing there work right beside the road. There are dogs lying in the road and babies squatting almost in traffic. I closed my eyes a lot because I couldn't imagine how we weren't going to hit them.

Working Cows

These carts are everywhere in this farming community. it is crazy how calm the cows are as cars, trucks and motorbikes whizz by their heads. Even when people are honking at them, they just turn their heads and lazily saunter to the side just out of reach of the fast moving vehicles.

Beautiful Trucks

Most of the trucks in India are painted by their  owners and taken very good care of. On the back of all trucks you will see "Please sound horn". Everyone honks their horn to pass. It is a curtice here. Funny, if you sound the horn in Canada you will not necessarily get a warm reception.

 Scrawny Goats

Goats are even less afraid of vehicles. A lot of my pictures were taken out of the car window as we spend by as yo can see by this photo.

Indian people can carry anything on their heads!

You can not believe what we saw on the top of these hard working peoples heads. One girl had a long stick with probably 15 to 20 empty water jugs distributed evenly in front and behind her. As you can see in this photo, they place a coiled scarf on their head and then the item on top of that. My neck hurt every time we passed them by.

The prettiest tractors I have ever seen.

Every tractor in this community was decorated with flowers and beads. I am not sure why but it could be to distinguish them from the others when they are left in the village. It was hard to believe that they could see out some times.

Roadside Fruit carts

Everywhere you go in India, you have potential to buy something. These carts were prevalent even in the remotest parts of India.
