How to become an instant Rock Star.

Our adouring fans.
We started our day in the ancient caves that tower over the meagre village of Badami. As we approached the ticket booth it was already clear that they we not use to Foreigners. The sign read, Indians five rupees foreigners one hundred rupees. One might think this was unfair but it meant that we were paying a whopping two dollars to see this amazing historic site.
As I started for the steps I was greeted by an Indian family with huge smiles who seemed to know me. They all cheered 'Hello' and stuck out their hands so I would touch them. I smiled back thinking this was strange but endearing. Well, everywhere Paul and I went, we would get stares and cheerful hellos. I was ambushed in one of the temples by about forty school aged girls who all had to touch my hand. It was hysterical. The carving in the caves were amazing. It is unbelievable that they could have been created in the sixth and seventh centuries. As we headed for our car, I turned to photograph the steps filled with Indian people and my new best friends all waved us good bye. I felt like a Rock Star. So funny!

These were the first caves we came upon. How did they do it?
The carvings were so detailed but being that they were in the cave, they were hard to photograph.
