Hampi, a change in scenery

India is a truly startling country. As we approached Hampi the landscape changed drastically. It became very rocky. Paul and I joked that it was proof that aliens have visited us on earth,. How else could you explain how these massive boulders could balance on each other. It reminded me of our aboriginal inuksuk's in Canada except on an extreme level.

Another incredible change was the emerald green rice patties we passed. In  Goa the rice patties were brown and non existent. Here in Hampi they are blessed with an amazing water system that has provided the farmers with water to feed their fields. We saw women in the lush fields manually pulling out the weeds so they could have  the largest production of rice possible.

Rice Fields

This was the view from our room. This lovely green field will one day soon sprout and rice will grow to feed this Indian community.  The second night we were in Hampi the farmers flooded this field and the frogs came to serenade  us ALL NIGHT. Man, it is extremely loud when hundreds of frogs sing at the same time. I thought street cars were loud. Eventually exhaustion set in and we were able to sleep. I so wanted to do something to wake those pesky frogs up the next morning.

Water Reservoir

To help the farmers in this community the government of India created a dam to provide water for much needed agricultural work.  This boat launch area was very clean and inviting however other parts along the shoreline are traditionally used for the daily morning constitution of the average Indian resident. You have to watch where you step. We never came across any issues in our travels.

Intricately carved temples

It seemed like  we had saved the best for last. Each temple seemed to get more and more ornate as we went along. Although the carvings in Badami were amazing, they did not have the detail of the temples in Hampi. Both were exquisite.
