How many Temples do you have to visit before you are Templed out?

The Hampi Temple experience demonstrated to me how spiritual and faithful the Indian people have been over many centuries. It is hard to fathom how many man hours it would have taken to create these brilliant archaeological monuments. I think if I ever go back to Hampi , I would not do all the temples in one three hour period. By the end of our tour we couldn't take in one more temple. I would also utilise one of the English speaking courtyard tour guides within of each Temple to explain the history or these beautiful structures. I think we missed part of the experience not doing this. It was still an amazing experience. I took so many pictures because everywhere I turned there was another site I wanted to remember.

The Music Temple

As we were walking towards the exit, Rita started talking to one of the guides. He told her that this was a very special Temple. The entire structure is one big musical instrument, each pillar plays a different sound. By tapping each pillar, you can create a song. They would have elaborate parties and use this temple to play music for the Goddess. We were wondering why people were in there slamming their hands against a hard piece of rock. We didn't hear music but maybe centuries of where and tear can dim the pillars musical ability ?

Temple under repair

I guess after centuries of mother nature attacking the sculptures, one needs to do some repair work. The Indian government has taken over and is trying to preserve the heritage of these archaeological sites. Thank goodness, because it would be a shame if we lost them. We did see structures that had lost some of the detailing perhaps forever.

Pillars  in need of protection from the elements.

This is one of the pillars within the quartaned off temple. You can see how it would be devastating if this art was lost forever.
